    Browser-specific errors, word for word

    If your course will not open, the exact wording on screen tells you which of these it is. Search for your error below.

    "It appears that popup windows are blocked, stopping this SCORM package from playing. Please check your browser settings before trying again."

    Cause: the course opens in a new window and the browser stopped it

    • Chrome: a blocked-popup icon appears at the right-hand end of the address bar. Click it, choose "Always allow pop-ups from this site", then reload the course.
    • Safari: Safari blocks popups more aggressively and shows no icon. Go to Safari, Settings, Websites, Pop-up Windows, find your LMS in the list and set it to Allow.
    • Edge: Settings, Cookies and site permissions, Pop-ups and redirects, Allow, then add your LMS address.
    • An ad blocker or privacy extension can block the popup even when the browser itself allows it. Disable it for the LMS domain and reload.
    • On a managed work device the block may be set by policy, in which case only IT can lift it.

    "This SCORM package has been launched in a popup window. If you have finished viewing this resource, click here to return to the course page."

    Cause: this is not an error. The course is running in the other window.

    The original tab shows this message while the course plays elsewhere. Switch windows to find it. If nothing opened, the popup was blocked, which is the error above.

    SCORM player not working in Chrome after an update

    Cause: usually third-party cookies or mixed content, not the package

    • If the LMS serves the course from a different domain, Chrome's third-party cookie restrictions can stop it tracking. Allow third-party cookies for the LMS domain.
    • If the LMS is https and the course loads anything over http, Chrome blocks it silently. The console shows a mixed-content warning.
    • Test the same package in a private window with extensions disabled. If it works there, an extension is the cause.
